Alfredo Daza

Gifted Mexican baritone, during his career he has performed with elegant musicality and dramatic stage presence more than 50 roles of the main Italian, French, German and Russian repertoires. Highlights include his recent role debuts as Macbeth, Stankar in Stiffelio and Zurga in Les pêcheurs de perles.

Until 2018, Alfredo Daza has been singing as First Baritone at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden by direct invitation of Maestro Daniel Barenboim.

During his career, his interpretations have been celebrated in titles such as: La Traviata (Germont), Don Carlo (Posa), Falstaff (Ford), Simon Boccanegra (Albiani), Un ballo in maschera (Renato), I Masnadieri (Francesco), Giovanna D'Arco (Giacomo), Stiffelio (Stankar), La Straniera (Valdeburgo), as well as the world premieres of Zender's Chief Joseph (2006) and Holdrige’s Dulce Rosa (2013).

Zubin Mehta, Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Kent Nagano, Donato Renzetti, Andris Nelsons, James Conlon, Gustavo Dudamel, Massimo Zanetti, Maurizio Benini or Stefano Ranzani, are some of the conductors he has been working with, sharing the stage with prominent figures such as Ruggero Raimondi, Edita Gruberova, Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kauffman, Rene Pape or Roberto Alagna.

Daza has been acclaimed in prestigious festivals such as the “Berlin Festtage", Glyndebourne Festival, Sant Gallen Festspiele as well as renowned opera houses and venues such as Staatsoper Berlin, the Staatsoper Hamburg, Staatsoper Stuttgart and Oper Köln, the Theatre Royale de La Monnaie, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Comunale di Bologna, Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro dell'Opera di Cagliari, Washington National Opera, Lincoln Center, San Francisco Opera, Michigan Opera, NYC Opera, Toronto's Canadian Opera, Los Angeles Opera, New National Theater in Tokyo, National Center of Performing Arts of Beijing, among others.

His recordings include: Marcello in La Bohéme (Villazon-Kanjova-Daza) under Manahan NYC Opera from the Lincoln Center (PBS Live), Belcore in L'elisir d’amore (Siurina-Auty-Daza) under Benini at the Glydenbourne Festival (Harmonia Mundi), Lescaut In Manon (Netrebko-Villaron-Daza) under Barenboim Staatsoper Berlin for Deutsche Grammophone and the albums "Stolen notes" with Parma Opera Ensemble and "Angel and Demon" (MSM). Recently, Alfredo has taken part in the DVD recording of Falstaff as Ford (Volle-Frittoli-Barcellona-Sierra-Daza-DeMuro) under the baton of Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Berlin (2019).

Daza began his studies at the Conservatory of his hometown, Puebla (México). A graduate of the National Conservatory of Music, at early age he won the "Carlo Morelli" National Competition in Mexico and then became an "Adler Fellow" with the San Francisco Opera.

Among his recent and next engagements, we highlight Falstaff (Ford) with Barenboim and Bohème (Marcello with Soddy at the Staatsoper Berlin); Il trovatore (Conte di Luna) in St. Gallen; Les pêcheurs de perles at the NCPA in Beijing with Renzetti, Macbeth at the Bellas Artes with Guidarini and an opera gala with Olga Peretyatko at the Platonov International Festival (Russia).
