The versatility of Àngel Òdena as singer has led him to a wide spectrum of musical, including a considerable amount of oratorio and vocal symphony, but he is at his very best in opera.

His debut was in 1994 in La Bohème at Teatro Petruzelli in Bari; the beginning of a career which now includes more than fifty operas. Bel canto operas by Rossini include: Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Lisbon, Hamburg, Peralada, Valencia), La Cenerentola (Hamburg, Palma de Mallorca), Il Viaggio a Reims (Barcelona, recorded on DVD) and L’Italiana in Algeri (Limoges) by Donizzetti he has sung l’Elisir d’Amore (Jerez, Hamburg and Barcelona), Anna Bolena (Hamburg, with Edita Gruberova), Maria Stuarda (Barcelona, again with Gruberova), Don Pasquale (Palma de Mallorca), La Favorita (Elda), Lucia di Lammermoor (Barcelona, Amsterdam-Concertgebouw and Lausanne), Il Duca d’Alba (Oviedo) and Roberto Devereux (Madrid -Teatro Real).

Classical operas include: Haydn’s L’isola disabitata (Lisbon) and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Barcelona), Don Giovanni (A Coruña) and Così fan tutte (Barcelona). French opera includes: Roméo et Juliette (Sabadell), Faust (Seville), Samson et Dalila (Bologna), Thaïs (Oviedo and Las Palmas), Werther (Teatro Real in Madrid), and one of his great role: Escamillo, from the ever popular Carmen, in Jerez, Palermo, Toulouse, Cap Roig, San Sebastian, Málaga, Barcelona Orange, l’Arena di Verona, this last one conducted by Plácido Domingo.

Àngel Òdena’s vocal and acting skills are particularly suited to Giacomo Puccini’s operas, having sung Turandot in Hamburg and in the reinauguration of Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Madama Butterfly (Hamburgo, Seville, Madrid, Lausanne, Florence and Barcelona-Liceu), La Bohème (Liceu in Barcelona, Bari, Córdoba and Naples, under the batton of Nello Santi), Le Villi (Oviedo and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées - Paris) and Il Tabarro (Liceu - Barcelona). He has also sung other Verismo classics, such us Cavalleria rusticana (Málaga and Lleida), Pagliacci (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées - París – and Madrid, which was edited on DVD by Teatro Real) and Manon Lescaut (Deuscht Oper Berln, Las Palmas).

Opera cannot be understood without Verdi, one of the favourite composers of the baritone from Tarragona, and he has sung: Falstaff (debuted at the Concertgebouw, Bilbao, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Maó), La Traviata (Liceu, Teatro Real, San Lorenzo del Escorial, San Sebastián, Tarragona, Teatro de La Zarzuela conducted by Alberto Zedda), Simon Boccanegra (Teatro Real in Madrid, Berlin and Liceu), Otello (Palma de Mallorca, Seville and Teatro Real in Madrid), Un Ballo in Maschera (Oviedo), Don Carlo (Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, El Escorial), Il Trovatore (Metropolitan Opera in New York), Aida (Liceu and Teatro Real in Madrid), Macbeth (Córdoba and Lisbom), Attila (Bilbao), Nabucco (Teatro de  São Carlos in Lisbon) and Rigoletto (Gran Teatre del Liceu and Naples).

German repertoire includes Elektra (Toulouse and Seville), Lohengrin (Turin, Barcelona, Bilbao, A Coruña and Salamanca), El oro del Rin (Madrid), Tannhäuser (Oviedo) and Tristan und Isolda (Las Palmas). He has also performed in Il Segreto di Susanna de Wolf Ferrari (recorded on CD) and Oedipus Rex by Stravinsky (Valencia, Bilbao and Peralada). He also participated in the recording of the CD of the Integral de Canciones para canto y piano  (Complete Songs for voice and piano) by A. Garcia Abril.

At Teatro Real in Madrid he has participated in a series of lyrical compositions by Spanish composers, for example: Margarita la Tornera (Chapí, recorded on CD), Merlin (Albéniz, on DVD), La Dolores (Bretón, on DVD), La conquista di Granata (Arrieta, on CD), Luisa Fernanda (Moreno Torroba) also performed in Miami (Florida Grand Opera) and El Cyrano (Alfano, together with Plácido Domingo). He has also performed El Gato Montés (Penella) in Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and in Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Atlàntida (Falla) in Granada, in Liceu and in Valencia with Teresa Berganza, Pepita Jiménez (Albéniz) in Peralada and Montpellier, Katiuska (Sorozábal) in Bilbao and Madrid and recorded on DVD, El Caserío (Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao), El hijo finjido (Rodrigo) in Madrid, Una voce in off and El Gato con botas (both from Monsalvatge), in Barcelona, both recorded on CD, Pan y Toros (Barbieri) in Oviedo and the opera Goyescas (Granados) in Venece, Savonlinna and Lleida. He has sung Indovina at Palau de la Música de Valencia, Marina at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, El Gato Montés in Sevilla, Oviedo and Lisboa, Juan José y La tabernera del puerto (Sorozábal) and La Villana (A.Vives) at  Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. Òdena recorded a CD of La Vida Breve de Falla on Deutsche Grammophon, with the subsequent concert in Granada and Toulouse.

His recent and future engagements include: Aida and Tosca by Puccini in Oviedo, Otello in Baluarte (Pamplona) and Córdoba, La tabernera del puerto by Sorozábal at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and Teatro Calderón in Valladolid, Falstaff in Teatro Real in Madrid and Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Luisa Fernanda in Sevilla and Oviedo, Aida and Cavalleria Rusticana/ Pagliacci in Liceu and El caserío at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
