Francisco Corujo

Born in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Francisco Corujo is one of the most promising young Spanish tenors and has won awards at competitions such as Francisco Viñas and Iris Adami Corradetti. He has studied in Spain and Italy, with María Orán in the Canary Islands, Manuel Cid and Tom Krause in the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, and Carlo Bergonzi in the Academia Verdiana de Busseto. His repertoire includes operas such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Cosi fan tutte and Romeo et Juliette. He is also an accomplished performer of oratorio and symphony, of works such as Requiem by Mozart, Messa di Gloria by Puccini and Beethoven's 9th Symphony. He has worked with conductors such as Plácido Domingo, Jesús López Cobos, Phillipe Entremont, Joseph Pons, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Emilio Sagi, Liu Jä, Nicola Luisotti, Luc Bondi, Giuliano Carella, Robert Carsen and Vasily Petrenko.

He made his debut in 2006 with Die Fledermaus by Strauss for Amigos Canarios de la Ópera in Las Palmas, and also as Arbace in Mozart's Idomeneo at the Teatro Real of Madrid and as Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth in La Coruña. Since then, Francisco has performed in the most important halls and theatres of Spain and Italy, such as the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, La Fenice of Venice (as Alfredo in La Traviata, by Verdi), the Verona Arena (in Romeo et Juliette by Gounod) and the Teatro Verdi in Salerno (as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni), etc.

Among his recent appearances special mention must be made of his debut as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opera of Tel Aviv, under the baton of Yshai Steckler and Emilio Sagi; as Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco, with the baritone Leo Nucci, in La Coruña; in Lucia di Lammermoor in Pavia, Cremona and Brescia; at Teatro Petruzzelli, in Bari, as Cassio in Verdi's Otello; in Tristan und Isolde by Wagner in La Coruña, under the direction of Eliahu Inbal; at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Schubert's Mass D950 conducted by Andrea Battistoni;  as Ferrando in Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart in Cagliari, with Cristopher Franklin and Damiano Michieletto conducting; as Romeo in the Romeo et Juliette of Gounod in Zagreb; his debut at the Gran Teatro Nacional de Perú as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart; I due foscari in the Theatre Capitole of Toulouse; in Beethoven's 9th Symphony in La Coruña; various concerts to presenting the record of Francesco Paolo Tosti songs, in Mallorca, Jaén, Menorca and La Coruña; La Boheme in the Auditorio de Tenerife and a concert to honour Alfredo Kraus in Oviedo.

In 2013 he released his first record for the label Playclassics, with the pianist Ángel Cabrera. The album is dedicated to the Neapolitan composer Francesco Paolo Tosti.

His latest performances and upcoming engagements include Falstaff in Coruña, Les pêcheurs de perles Les pêcheurs de perles with the Real Filharmonía in Santiago de Compostela and Vigo Der Fliegende Holländer with the Orquesta de Valencia, Die Zauberflöte at the Opera Naples in Florida, Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Santo Domingo, Doña Francisquita at the Auditorio de Tenerife, Ópera Intergaláctica  at Teatro Real, Lucrezia Borgia at Teatro Colón de Coruña, El mozo de mulas with the Sinfónica de Burgos at thre Auditorio del Fórum Evolución and Manfred at the Fundación Juan March.
