2016-10-11

The Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera will stage, between October 22nd and 31st, the melodrama Lucrezia Borgia, an opera in two acts and a prologue composed by Gaetano Donizetti. The libretto was written by Felice Romani after the play of the same name by Victor Hugo, which in turn was inspired by the legend of the mythical daughter of Pope Alexander VI. Stage direction of this co-production by the theatres of Turin, Bergamo and Sassari will be in the hands of Franceso Bellotto. Musical direction will be by Maestro José Miguel Pérez Sierra, conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi and the Coro de la Ópera de Bilbao and an outstanding cast of singers, such as the baritone Germán Olvera.
Olvera has performed recently in Otello, at the Teatro Calderón de Valladolid, in Don Carlo at Los Teatros del Canal, in L’elisir d’amore at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba and in the concert “Haydn’s godson, Mozart’s friend” with the orchestra Europa Galante and its conductor, Fabio Biondi. The Mexican baritone's upcoming engagements include Thaïs (concert version) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, Bomarzo at the Teatro Real of Madrid, Marina at the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid and Turandot, with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
