A new production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” by the Festival de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and the Quincena Musical Donostiarra has been performed at San Sebastian’s Auditorio Kursaal within the framework of the Quincena Musical Donostiarra. Alfonso Romero Mora’s stage direction and Marifé Nogales’s performance as Papagena have once again proven extremely successful, as has been confirmed by the audience and the critics.

…”An original, risky production that leaves nobody indifferent”… Noticias de Guipúzkoa” (Iñigo Alberdi)

…”for our recovery… The Magic Flute!”...”The brilliant rapport reached by Leigh Melrose and Marifé Nogales in their performance as Papagenos”…”Romero has rightly chosen the idealistic consistency required by our time”…”This kind of proposals, although incomprehensibly finished, is light years away from the nihilistic prostitution to which The Magic Flute was subject in other readings with an extremely conservative intention”… El País (Jesús Ruiz Mantilla)

…“Marifé Nogales’s Papagena sounded wonderfully, and her presence filled up the stage”…”At the end of the performance, stage director Alfonso Romero toys with a reading that extreme purists might consider sacrilegious, since it forces Good and Evil, that is, Sarastro and the Queen of the Night, hold hands and leaves no victors or defeated, which may well represent the ideal understanding of two conflicting parties”…”Stage changes are constant and colorful, and film elements are introduced by means of 3D effects, favoring the plot development by making it more agile”… “Noticias de Guipúzkoa” (Iñigo Arbiza)

…”Marifé Nogales came up with a nice Papagena, with a fresh and strong voice”… “Ópera Actual” (José María Marco)
