The American tenor Gregory Kunde will once again sing the main role of Andrea Chénier, this time at the mythical Wiener Staatsoper. The masterpiece by Giordano will be on stage at the Vienna Opera House between January 6th and 15th. Singing alongside Kunde will be Luca Salsi in the role of Carlo Gérard and Tatiana Serjan, as Maddalena di Coigny, all under the musical direction of Maestro Frédéric Chaslin. Stage direction is by the Austrian Otto Schenk.

Kunde’s recent engagements include Jean de Leyden (Le prophète) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Don Alvaro (La forza del destino) at the Semperoper Dresden, Pollione (Norma) for the Opéra Royal de Wallonie and in Bilbao, the title role of Peter Grimes at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, Valencia, Radames (Aida) at the Teatro Real, Madrid, and Fondazione Arena di Verona, Calaf (Turandot) at Fondazione Arena di Verona and a return to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for the title role of Verdi’s Otello and Manrico (Il trovatore).
In concert, recent highlights include Das Lied von der Erde at the BBC Proms, Verdi’s Requiem in Bilbao, the title role of Verdi’s Otello at the Cincinnati May Festival, title role of Peter Grimes with Sir Antonio Pappano at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Faust (La damnation de Faust) in concert at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Charles Dutoit.

Highlights in the 2018/19 season include the role of Radames (Aida) also at the Wiener Staatsoper, Renato des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) for Opera di Roma on tour in Japan and in concert at the Dallas Opera, the title role Otello for Opéra de Monte-Carlo and at Baluarte, Pamplona, Calaf (Turandot) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and at the Teatro Real de Madrid, Das lied von der Erde with the Orquesta de Valencia at Palau de la Música, a recital at Palma de Mallorca,  Verdi’s Requiem with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta and a return to the podium to conduct Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro La Fenice.
