2017-07-05

Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi will be the first opera of the 2017/2018 Programación Lírica de los Amigos de la Ópera de A Coruña, with performances on September 1st and 3rd at the Teatro Colón. These performances in A Coruña will bring together some of the best Verdian voices of today. After his currently performances of Otello in London's Covent Garden, Gregory Kunde will initiate in Coruña his Spain's Opera Seasons giving life to the main character, Riccardo. With him on stage will be Marianne Cornetti in the role of the fortune-teller Ulrica and the bass David Sánchez, accompanied by the chorus Gaos. It is a new production directed by Mario Pontiggia and in the pit will be the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, conducted by Ramón Tebar.
In addition, the association Amigos de la Ópera de A Coruña has organised, for September 9th, a musical tribute to Alberto Zedda, an essential figure in the world of opera for the last forty years and who had a close relationship with the association. Zedda promoted the recognition and vindication of Rossini's serious operas in Spain, and he did this from A Coruña. The tribute consists of a great Rossini celebration with scenes from the composer's principal operas, both comic and serious ones. The event will bring together an exceptional group of singers, such as the Valencia-born soprano Carmen Romeu, and other outstanding artists ranging from representatives of the golden era of the "Rossinian Renaissance" to some of the newest talents from Pésaro. It will be a grand gala lasting over two hours and featuring the best of Rossini.
