Gregory Kunde stars in Andrea Chénier at the ABAO-OLBE, under the direction of Alfonso Romero Mora

Andrea Chénier, an opera in four acts with music by Umberto Giordano and libretto by Luigi Illica, will be staged by the ABAO-OLBE on May 20th, 23rd, 26th and 29th at the Palacio Euskalduna.The American tenor Gregory Kunde will sing the title role of this opera, after his recent and huge success in this role at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This coproduction of Andrea Chenier, by ABAO and Peralada Festival, where it was staged in 2014, will be stage directed by Alfonso Romero Mora. The performances mark the end of Bilbao's current opera season.
Gregory Kunde will be accompanied on the stage by outstanding singers such as Anna Pirozzi, who will give life to Maddalena de Coigny, Ambrogio Maestri, who will be Carlo Gérard and Elena Zilio, as the Countess de Coigny, among others. The conductor will be Maestro Stefano Ranzani, who will be leading the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and the Coro de Ópera de Bilbao.
Among Gregory Kunde's upcoming engagements, special mention must go to Turandot with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta. He will also be returning to the ROH Covent Garden in July, with Otello, on this occasion conducted by Maestro Antonio Pappano, and in August he will give two recitals, one at the Peralada Festival and another at the Tio Pepe Festival of Jerez de la Frontera. In the 2017/2018 season he will return to ABAO-OLBE with Norma and to the Teatro Real of Madrid with Aida.
Alfonso Romero Mora’ recently directed Luisa Fernanda in Nordhausen, Germany, Don Pasquale in AGAO-Auditorio Baluarte, Otello at the Teatro Villamarta of Jerez, La Voix Humaine/Le Portrait de Manon and Andrea Chénier at the Ópera de las Palmas, Le nozze di Figaro at the Theater Koblenz and will stage again Andrea Chenier in the next Ópera de Oviedo season.
