Gregory Kunde to sing the title role of Poliuto at the Liceu of Barcelona

Tenor Gregory Kunde will sing the role of Poliuto in the tragic opera that Donizetti wrote in 1838 and that will be performed as a concert at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona on January 10th and 13th. According to the Barcelona theatre, Poliuto represents a turning point in the composer's style, which is moving away from bel canto and seems to be leaning instead towards grandiloquence and spectacle, more to the French taste and linked with grand opéra. The Liceu has a superb cast that includes Gregory Kunde, who will be performing once again in one of his specialties, late bel canto. Accompanying the American tenor will be the soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, in the role of Paolina, and the baritone Luca Salsi, as Severo. Conducting will be by Daniele Callegari leading the Liceu's Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro.
Gregory Kunde's upcoming engagements include Aida at the Teatro Real of Madrid and Peter Grimes at the Palau de les Arts of Valencia.
