The American tenor Gregory Kunde will sing in two of the titles scheduled for the 2016-2017 season of the Royal Opera House of London: Il trovatore and Otello.
Gregory Kunde will perform in Il Trovatore from January 26th to February 9th 2017. On stage with him will be the singers Maria Agresta, Roberto Alagna, Lianna Haroutounian, Anita Rachvelishvili and Dmitri Hvorostovsky. This staging by the German director David Bösch, which is a co-production with the Frankfurt Opera, will have the British Maestro Richard Farnes as musical director. Prior to these performances, in the ROH’s current season, from July 4th through July 15th 2016, Kunde will be in the same production, singing the same role, but under the guidance of Maestro Noseda.
And a few months after next year’s Il Trovatore, from June 21st to July 15th 2017, Keith Warner will be conducting Verdi’s Otello, with Gregory Kunde and Jonas Kaufmann alternating in the title role. Antonio Pappano, who has extended his contract with ROH until 2020, will be conducting the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Choir in this new production by the London theatre.
In recent months Kunde has sung Otello, by Rossini, at La Scala in Milan, as well as Aida at the Verona Arena, Norma at the Liceu, La Fenice and the Munich Opera, and Il Trovatore at La Fenice and in A Coruña. He also performed the role of Roberto Devereux in Bilbao and in Madrid, opening Teatro Real’s current season. At the Teatro de la Maestranza of Seville he recently performed Verdi’s Otello and not long ago he also sang Rossini’s Otello at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona.  In January of this year he added the role of Samson to his repertoire, performing in the Samson et Dalila put on at Les Arts of Valencia.
Also among Gregory Kunde’s upcoming engagements are Requiem by Verdi (ABAO-Bilbao), Idomeneo (Les Arts of Valencia), Otello (May Festival-Cincinnati) with James Conlon and a concert performance at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. In addition, Gregory Kunde will open the next season at Teatro Real of Madrid, heading the cast of Verdi’s Otello and performing shortly thereafter in Bellini’s Norma.
