For June 13th and 14th the Teatro de la Maestranza of Seville has programmed a 21st century Carmen, as envisioned and revised by Víctor Ullate. Over Bizet's music, Pedro Navarrete has composed a score that the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (ROSS) will perform live under the direction of Manuel Coves. Artistic direction is by Eduardo Lao while costume design and lighting are by Paco Azorín.

And from June 29th to July 1st the Festival of Mérida will present Electra, the new project by the Ballet Nacional de España. It was created by Antonio Ruz, with the collaboration of dancer and choreographer Olga Pericet. It contains the dramaturgy and song lyrics of Alberto Conejero and the set design of Paco Azorín. Manuel Coves, leading the Orquesta de Extremadura, and the composers Moisés P. Sánchez, Pablo Martín and Diego Losada, have been entrusted with enlarging the story of Electra with music.

Manuel Coves' upcoming engagements include, again, Carmen by the Victor Ullate Ballet, this time in the Gran Teatro of Córdoba and The Nutcracker, by the Compañía Nacional de Danza, at the Teatro Real of Madrid.
