2016-10-11

From October 20th to November 4th the Teatro Real of Madrid will be staging Norma, by the Italian composer Vicenzo Bellini. Considered by many the highest expression of the bel canto tradition, this tragic opera in two acts, with a libretto by Felice Romani based on the play Norma, ou l’infanticide, by Alexandre Soumet, will star Gregory Kunde. The American tenor now takes on the role of Pollione, after having opened the Teatro Real season singing the title role in Otello. Accompanying him on stage will be Michele Pertusi (Oroveso), Maria Agresta (Norma) and Karine Deshayes (Adalgisa), in the principal roles. Norma comes to the Teatro Real by the hand of Davide Livermore, the stage director of this co-production with Les Arts de Valencia and the ABAO-Bilbao. It will be conducted by Roberto Abbado.

Soon after this engagement, from November 15th to 26th, Kunde will give life to Samson in a new production of Samson et Dalila at the Teatro Regio di Torino. The staging is a co-production with the National Centre for the Performing Arts of Beijing. This opera in three acts and four scenes, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns to a libretto by Ferdinand Lemaire, will be conducted by Pinchas Steinberg. Hugo de Ana is in charge of stage direction. On this occasion, the co-protagonist of the Saint-Saëns opera will be the Italian mezzosoprano Daniela Barcellona.
