For the first production of its upcoming opera season, the Liceu of Barcelona has programmed Macbeth, with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on Shakespeare's play of the same name. In the words of the theatre, this version of Macbeth by stage director Christof Loy puts the action in “a classical, timeless setting and adds touches of surrealism. Black and white dominate and the drama is intense".  Leading the Orquesta Sinfónica and the Coro del Gran Teatre del Liceu will be the conductor Giampaolo Bisanti.
On stage with the bass David Sánchez will be, among others, Ludovic Tézier and Luca Salsi as Macbeth, Vitalij Kowaljow and Alessandro Guerzoni as Banco, and Martina Serafin and Tatiana Serjan in the role of Lady Macbeth.
