Vasily Petrenko Will Feature Once Again at the Proms

2013-07-02

Vasily Petrenko will make three appearances at the Proms 2013. On August 11th, Mr. Petrenko will conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in a very special concert to commemorate the bicentenary of the Royal Philharmonic Society. The program will include Vaughan Williams’s “Toward the Unknown Region”; Mark-Anthony Turnage’s “Frieze” (world premiere), a work commissioned by the BBC, the Royal Philharmonic Society and the New York Philharmonic for the occasion; and, finally, the most famous commissioned work for choir and orchestra of the Royal Philharmonic Society – Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony”. In September, Mr. Petrenko will feature once again at the Proms to conduct the Oslo Philharmonic, of which he will be the new Main Conductor from the beginning of the 2013 season. At the concert of August 2nd, Mr. Petrenko will conduct Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 1”, Szymanowski’s “Concert for Violin No. 1” (featuring violinist Baiba Skride), and Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dances”. On August 3rd, he will conduct Beethoven’s “Concert for Piano No. 2” (featuring pianist Christian Ihle Hadland) and Bruckner’s “Symphony No. 4”. As usual, concerts will be housed by the Royal Albert Hall.
