El Teatro de la Zarzuela presents Gerónimo Giménez’s “La Tempranica” with soprano Virginia Wagner featured in the cast

The Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid inaugurates its 2013-2014 season with “La Tempranica” by Sevilian composer Gerónimo Giménez and libretto by Julián Romea. Soprano Virginia Wagner is one of the featured cast members who will perform a concert version of the opera on September 21st and 22nd, playing the part of Salú. This is the composer’s most famous and most highly prized score, combining intense lyrical elements with other more popular elements. It premiered at this same theater on September 19, 1900. Musical direction will be by maestro Rafael Frühbeck Burgos, conducting the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and the Coro del Teatro de La Zarzuela. The program will be completed with pieces by Joaquín Rodrigo (“Homenaje a La Tempranica”) and Isaac Albeniz (“Suite española”).
