Gregory Kunde and Carmen Romeu star in Rossini’s “Otello” at Antwerp’s Vlaamse Opera

On February 7th, Antwerp’s Vlaamse Opera presents Rossini’s “Otello.” Tenor Gregory Kunde will perform in the starring role alongside soprano Carmen Romeu as Desdémona. Both singers received awards at the last edition of the Teatro Campoamor Opera Awards and will perform together for the first time. With scenic direction from Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, this production was previously performed at the Zurich Opera. The Koor van de Vlaamse Opera and Symfonisch Orkest van de Vlaamse Opera will be conducted by maestro Alberto Zedda – the most renowned specialist of the composer from Pesaro. Starting on February 28th, there will be six performances. Gregory Kunde’s recent performance in Giuseppe Verdi’s “Otello” at Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice was a great success. Curiously, e is the only tenor who alternates between Verdi and Rossini’s “Otello.” Carmen Romeu’s most recent Rossini performances include the lead role in “La Donna del Lago” at Pesaro’s last Rossini Opera Festival and she will be soon performing a concert dedicated entirely to this composer at Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela.
