Gregory Kunde and Dmitry Ulyanov will feature in Verdi’s “Les Vepres Siciliennes” at Bilbao’s Palacio Euskalduna

Within the framework of the series entitled Tutto Verdi, ABAO will stage the premiere of “Les Vepres Siciliennes”. The cast will include tenor Gregory Kunde in the role of Henry and bass Dmitry Ulyanov as Jean Procida. The show has been newly co-produced by the ABAO, Turin’s Teatro Regio and Lisbon’s Teatro São Carlos, featuring stage direction by Davide Livermore. The ópera has been set in 1992, the year when a fatal terrorist attack was carried out against judges Falcone and Borsalino in Palermo. The show premiered in March 2011 at Turin’s Teatro Regio on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Italian unification. Gregory Kunde was widely acclaimed for those performances. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi will be conducted by John Mauceri, who made his debut in Spain in 2010 conducting “Susannah” at that same stage. Beginning on February 16th, there will be four performances at Bilbao’s Palacio Euskalduna.
