Gregory Kunde and Lianna Haroutounian to star in the Otello that will open the new season at Teatro Real, a production in which Vicenç Esteve also sings


From September 15th to October 3rd Madrid's Teatro Real will be staging the first work of its 2016-2017 opera season, Otello by Giuseppe Verdi. The title role of this four-act opera based on Shakespeare's Othello, the Moor of Venice, with libretto by Arrigo Boito, will be sung by the American tenor Gregory Kunde. The Armenian soprano Lianna Haroutounian will sing the role of Desdemona, Othello's wife, while tenor Vicenç Esteve will give life to Roderigo, a Venetian gentleman.
This new production by Teatro Real, a co-production with the English National Opera and the Kungliga Operan of Stockholm, will have David Alden as its stage director. Musical direction is by Renato Palumbo, who will be conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid and the choruses Intermezzo and Pequeños Cantores, both of Madrid.
