On May 21st, 23rd, and 24th, Oviedo’s Teatro Campoamor will stage the opera entitled “El Gato Montés”, with music and libretto by Manuel Penella. Baritone Luis Cansino will play the role of Hormigón and mezzo-soprano Marifé Nogales will play the part of the Gypsy. The show has been produced by Madrid’s Teatro de La Zarzuela, featuring stage direction by José Carlos Plaza. This production has been granted the Best Spanish Opera Production Award within the framework of the Premios Líricos Teatro Campoamor de Oviedo. Both singers were widely acclaimed when performing those same roles during the premiere of the production and its recent replay at Seville’s Teatro de la Maestranza. Oliver Díaz will be conducting the Capilla Polifónica Ciudad de Oviedo and the Orquesta Oviedo Filarmonía.
