Lisbon’s Teatro Nacional São Carlos presents “Poliuto” with Carmen Romeu as Paolina and Javier Franco as Severo

A concert version of Donizett’s “Poliuto” will be presented at Lisbon’s Teatro Nacional de São Carlos on April 16th, 19th and the 21st. Soprano Carmen Romeu stars in the role of Paolina and baritone Javier Franco as Severo, both singers performing these roles for the first time. This is one of the composer’s least performed operas, and its revival is due in large part to having been chosen by Milan’s Teatro alla Scala to inaugurate its 1960-61 season, with Maria Callas, Franco Corelli and Ettore Bastianini. On this occasion, the Orquesta Sinfónica Portuguesa and Coro do Teatro Nacional São Carlos will be conducted by Sergio Alapont.
