Mariola Cantarero and Damián del Castillo to sing leading roles in Fuenteovejuna at Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo


The Ópera de Oviedo opens its season with the absolute premiere of the opera Fuenteovejuna, composed by Jorge Muñiz, with libretto by Javier Almuzara and stage direction by Miguel del Arco, who was honoured with Spain's National Theatre Prize in 2017. The production is offered in commemoration of the 400 years since the first publication of the masterpiece by Lope de Vega. The soprano Mariola Cantarero will sing the lead role, Laurencia, and the baritone Damían del Castillo, will give life to Fernán Gómez. Musical direction is in the hands of Santiago Serrate, who will be leading the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias and the Coro de la Ópera de Oviedo.  Four performances are scheduled, on September 9th, 11th, 13th and 15th.
