Pedro Halffter conducts Tannhäuser, with Damián del Castillo singing, at the Teatro de la Maestranza


Maestro Halffter will provide the musical direction of Tannhäuser, an opera in three acts with music and libretto by Richard Wagner. The performances will be held from October 28th through November 5th at the Teatro de la Maestranza of Seville. The Madrid-born conductor will be leading the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla and the Chorus of the Association of Friends of the Maestranza, along with a brilliant cast of singers, including the baritone Damián del Castillo, in the role of Biterolf, Attila Jun (Hermann), Peter Seiffert (Tannhäuser), Martín Gantner (Wolfram von Eschenbach), and others. This co-production by the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Teatro Wielki de Poznán will be directed by Achim Thorwald.

Damián del Castillo's upcoming engagements include Rigoletto at the Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo, Thaïs (concert version) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, Bomarzo at the Teatro Real de Madrid and Marina at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.

And on November 11th, at the Palau de la Música of Valencia, Pedro Halffter will be at the helm of the Orquesta de Valencia, to conduct: Der Kaiser von Atlantis, pequeña obertura and Adagio in memoriam de Anna Frank, both composed and orchestrated by Pedro Halffter, based on a movement from Piano Sonata no. 7 by Victor Ullmann; Dueto concertino TRV 293, by Richard Strauss, with the soloists Vicente Alós (clarinet) and Juan Enrique Sapiña (bassoon); and Tannhäuser Sinfónico, a symphonic poem in three movements by Pedro Halffter, based on the opera by Wagner.
