The Festival de San Lorenzo de El Escorial will stage a new show of Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata”, featuring conductor Pietro Rizzo and baritone Damián del Castillo in the role of Marques D’Obigny. The leading role will be played by soprano Desireé Rancatore. Stage direction has been signed by Susana Gómez, who has set the work in the 1940’s. The show will feature the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid. Performances will take place on July 26th and 28th at El Escorial’s Teatro Auditorio. Subsequently, the same work will be included in the program of the 74 Quincena Musical Donostiarra, featuring the same singers, as well as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi and the Coro mixto Easo. Performances will take place on August 11th and 13th at San Sebastian’s Auditorio Kursaal. In November, Pietro Rizzo will conduct another Verdian title, “La Forza del Destino”, within the framework of ABAO’s next season.
