Resounding success of Luis Cansino in “I Vespri Siciliani” at Brno’s National Opera

Baritone Luis Cansino has recently been widely acclaimed for his performance in the role of Guido di Monfort in Giuseppe Verdi’s “I Vespri Siciliani”. Brno’s National Opera (Narodni Divadlo) staged a new production of this work and chose the Spanish baritone for that major role, one of the most difficult ones in the Verdian repertoire. The audience warmly praised his performance, and the critics also highlighted the importance of his achieved success.

…”The part of Governor Monfort was sung by Spanish baritone Luis Cansino, featuring a powerful, voluminous, and round voice and very good low-pitched notes that brought about the first “bravos” of the night. He was particularly impressive in the scene in which he acknowledged Arrigo as his son”… Martin Robert Botz (Der Neue Merker)

The singer will play that same role again within the framework of Smetana’s Litomysl Opera Festival.
