Sergio Escobar will be Pinkerton in the Madama Butterfly of Les Arts of Valencia, directed by Emilio López


Tenor Sergio Escobar will embody Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, a new production of the Palau de Les Arts of Valencia, which will be staged from October 11th to 22nd. The famous opera in three acts by Puccini, with libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, which speaks of “the conflict between East and West, unconditional love and a betrayal that lead to a tragic end”, will have Emilio López as stage director. Musical direction is in the hands of Diego Matheuz who will lead an excellent cast that includes, in addition to Escobar as the cruel Lieutenant Pinkerton, Liana Aleksanyan as Cio Cio San, the teenaged geisha abandoned by Pinkerton, Rodrigo Esteves as Sharples and Nozomi Kato as Suzuki.
Sergio Escobar's most recent engagements have been recitals in Spain, plus Carmen in Florence and Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
The recent and future engagements of Emilio López include directing the opera Píramo e Tisbe at the Palau de les Arts of Valencia, with conductor Fabio Biondi, and his work as revival director, at the Teatro de la Maestranza, of Davide Livermore's production of La Bohème and, for the current ABAO season, of Livermore's production of Norma.
