Soprano Svetlana Aksenova will be Zarina Militrisa in The Tale of Tsar Saltan staged at La Monnaie in Brussels


The Tale of Tsar Saltan, an opera composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov to a libretto by Vladimir Belsky, based on Aleksandr Pushkin's poem of the same name, will be on stage from June 11th to 29th at La Monnaie. Soprano Svetlana Aksenova will give life to the character of Tsaritsa Militrisa in this co-production by the Belgian theatre and the Teatro Real of Madrid. Stage direction is by Dmitri Tcherniakov. Performing alongside Aksenova will be, among others, Ante Jerkunica (Tsar Saltan), Stine Marie Fischer (Tkatchikha), Bernarda Bobro (Povarikha), and Carole Wilson (Barbarikha). They will sing under the guidance of Maestro Alain Altinoglu, who will be leading the Orchestre Symphonique et Chœurs de la Monnaie.

In upcoming engagements we will have the opportunity to hear Svetlana Aksenova in Madama Butterfly, at the Opèra Royal de Wallonie, and also in Eugen Onegin, at the Den Norske Opera of Oslo.
