The 61st Festival de Ópera de A Coruña Will Include Major International Figures that Will Sing Donizetti, Wagner, and Verdi

The Asociación de Amigos de la Opera de A Coruña has announced its 61st Festival de Ópera. One of its highlights is, as always, the magnificent casts chosen, which will play works by Donizetti, Verdi, and Wagner. On September 10th and 13th, Gaetano Donizetti’s “Lucia de Lammermoor” will be staged at A Coruña’s Palacio de la Ópera. The show will feature stage direction by Alfonso Romero Mora. Mr. Romero is remembered by his direction of “I Puritani” on that same stage, a show that will rerun within the framework of ABAO’s next season. The brilliant cast that has been put together will include Maria José Moreno, Celso Albelo, and baritone Javier Franco in the role of Enrico. Musical direction will be entrusted to conductor Daniel Oren. All of them are highly appreciated and well-known for their previous performances at the Festival. For September 21st a concert “Gala Lírica” has been announced. It will be entirely dedicated to Verdi and will feature tenor Gregory Kunde and baritone Juan Jesús Rodríguez. Recently, Mr. Kunde was widely acclaimed for his performance in “Otello”, and his performance in A Coruña is eagerly expected. Ramón Tebar will be conducting the Orquesta Gaos. On September 28th, Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” will be staged as a concert at the Palacio de la Ópera. The show will feature the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia and an outstanding cast, including Stephen Gould and Catherin Foster. Baritone César San Martín will play the role of Timonel, a part that he will play again at Madrid’s Teatro Real. They will all be conducted by prestigious Israeli Eliahu Inbal.
