The ABAO-OLBE takes Il barbiere di Siviglia to the stage with Damián del Castillo in the role of Figaro and Marifé Nogales as Rossina

Between May 14th and May 23rd, the ABAO-OLBE (Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera) will be closing its 64th season with Il barbiere di Siviglia, a comic opera by Gioacchino Rossini. To give life to the characters a cast of outstanding performers has been assembled and Damián del Castillo and Marifé Nogales will sing the roles of Figaro and Rossina at the May 15th performance. The conduction will be in hands of Maestro José Miguel Pérez Sierra, who will be standing before the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra and the Coro de Ópera del Bilbao. The staging is a production of the Teatro Real of Madrid, conceived by Emilio Sagi.
Among the recent performances of Damián del Castillo we would underline his presence at the Teatro Real (Death in Venice, Romeo y Juliette, La Traviata), in Verdi's Otello at the Festival de Peralada and the Teatro de la Maestranza, in Don Carlo at Los Teatros del Canal and Otello and Simon Boccanegra at the Liceu. Soon we will have the chance to see the Jaén-born baritone in Der König Kandaules at the Maestranza, in a concert version of Thaïs, again at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and in Bomarzo at the Teatro Real.
The mezzo Marifé Nogales has performed recently in La Traviata at the Teatro Real, in Carmen in Mahón (Minorca), in L’isola desabitata in Los Teatros del Canal, and in Manon Lescaut, in Bilbao-ABAO. We can also see her soon in the concert performance of Thaïs, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and in Madame Butterfly at the Teatro Real.
