The bass Dmitry Ulyanov will give life to Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer staged by Opera Vlaanderen

From October 20th to November 22nd Opera Vlaanderen will be staging Der Fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman), a romantic opera in three acts with music and libretto by Richard Wagner. In this work's plot involving a ghostly old vessel and its accursed captain, the German composer found the perfect vehicle for his favourite themes: the search for redemption, existential guilt and the power of love to transcend death. The bass Dmitry Ulyanov gives life to the Norwegian sailor Daland and accompanying him on stage will be Iain Paterson (Der Holländer), Liene Kinča (Senta) and Ladislav Elgr (Erik), among others. In charge of stage direction is the German Tatjana Gürbaca, who situates the action in a money-fixated community suffering from enormous spiritual emptiness. Leading the Symfonisch Orkest Opera Vlaanderen and the Koor Opera Vlaanderen will be the conductors Cornelius Meister and Philipp Pointner.
Dmitry Ulyanov's future engagements include Katerina Izmaylova at the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, Prince Igor at the Nationale Opera of Amsterdam and Le Coq D’or at the Teatro Real of Madrid.
