The Gran Teatre del Liceu stages Un ballo in maschera, with the participation of the baritone Damián del Castillo

Un ballo in maschera, a melodrama in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with libretto by Antonio Somma, can be seen on the stage of the Barcelona theatre between October 7th and 29th. “Envy and conspiracy, but also passionate loves, jealousy, revenge and final forgiveness come together in this Verdi masterpiece, which aroused the anger and prohibitions of the censors of the time, to the point that the composer and librettist were compelled to make changes in it: from the original Sweden to far away Boston” as can be read on the Liceu web site.
Damián del Castillo participates in this co-production by the Théâtre du Capitole (Toulouse) and Staatstheater Nürnberg (Nuremberg) in which "Vincent Boussard's sets reinforce the dark and mysterious atmosphere surrounding the piece, which features costumes by Christian Lacroix and Vincent Lemaire's scenography." Also in the cast, conducted by Renato Palumbo, are singers of the stature of Piotr Beczala (Riccardo), Giovanni Meoni (Renato), Ekaterina Metlova (Amelia) and Dolora Zajick (Ulrica).
In the near future, Damián del Castillo will return to the Teatro Real with Dead Man Walking and he will also sing Così fan tutte and Rigoletto at the Teatro Cervantes of Málaga.
