The Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project XVI stages Gianni Schicchi/ L’enfant et les sortilèges, with the participation of the mezzo Marianne Cornetti


Marianne Cornetti will sing in the double-bill programme Gianni Schicchi/L’enfant et les sortilège that has been programmed by the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project XVI from March 16th to March 25th. The production will tour various cities in Japan. It will be in Kyoto on the 16th and 18th, in Nagoya on the 21st and in Tokyo on the 25th. In Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, the American mezzosoprano will sing the role of Zita while in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges she will sing the roles of Maman (the mother represented by an enormous skirt), la tasse chinoise (the broken china cup) and la libellule (the dragonfly). Seiji Ozawa, artistic director of the Music Academy that bears his name, will conduct the first of the works. The second work will be conducted by Joseph Colaneri. The stage direction of this double-bill programme, which is a production of the Academy, has been placed in the hands of David Kneuss.
Marianne Cornetti’s upcoming engagements include Un ballo in maschera at the Bolshoi and Hansel and Gretel with the Pittsburgh Opera.
