The Teatre Principal of Palma presents Norma with Sergio Escobar as Pollione and Wojtek Gierlach as Oroveso

The Teatre Principal of Palma has programmed Bellini's Norma for June 6th, 8th and 10th.  This masterpiece of bel canto will feature the voices of the tenor Sergio Escobar, who will sing the role of Pollione, and of the Polish bass Wojtek Gierlach, who will give life to Oroveso. “The Italian composer, with the support of the libretto written by Felice Romani, combines Greek tragedy, Celtic nature worship and the remorse of Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth. Lorenzo Amato makes this collage of references explode with spectacular projections, raw realism and monumental scenography. The accomplices in his artistic direction for the Teatro San Carlo of Naples are once again his historic collaborators, Ezio Frigerio (set design) and Franca Squarciapino (wardrobe)”, according to the Teatre Principal. Holding the baton will be Andrés Salado, standing before the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears and the Cor del Teatre Principal de Palma.
Sergio Escobar's upcoming engagements include Simon Boccanegra at the Hungarian State Opera and I Lombardi at the ABAO-Bilbao. We will have the chance to see Wojtek Gierlach again soon in La Cenerentola at the Welsh National Opera.
