The Teatro Cervantes of Málaga to stage Rigoletto, with Damián del Castillo in the title role

Rigoletto, an opera in three acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi to a libretto by F. M. Piave, based on Victor Hugo's play Le roi s’amuse, has been programmed by the Teatro Cervantes of Málaga for May 18th and 20th. Performed for the first time at the Teatro La Fenice of Venice on March 11th, 1851, Rigoletto is considered one of the first operatic masterpieces of Verdi's mid career. This drama of passion, deceit, filial love and vengeance is protagonized by Rigoletto, the hunchbacked jester of the court of the Duke of Mantua. The vocal role of Rigoletto, one of the greatest baritone roles in the opera repertoire, will be performed by Damián del Castillo. Stage direction of this production by Teatro Cervantes and Telón Producciones is by Ignacio García. At the helm of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga and the Coro de la Ópera de Málaga will be Salvador Vázquez.
Damián del Castillo's upcoming engagements include the world premiere of Fuenteovejuna, at the Ópera de Oviedo, under the stage direction of Miguel del Arco and Madama Butterfly at the Liceu of Barcelona.
