The Teatro de la Zarzuela to stage Marina, with the baritones Damián del Castillo and Germán Olvera in the cast


From June 15th to June 24th, the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid will be staging Marina, an opera in three acts with music by Emilio Arrieta and libretto by Francisco Camprodón and Miguel Ramón Carrión. Damián del Castillo and Germán Olvera will alternate in the role of Roque in this story about secret loves at the edge of the sea. The production's musical director will be the Valencia-native Ramón Tebar, who will stand before the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and the Coro del Teatro de La Zarzuela. Ignacio García will be conducting.
Recent performances by Damián del Castillo include Tannhäuser at the Teatro de la Maestranza, Rigoletto at the Ópera de Oviedo, Thaïs at the Liceu, and Bomarzo at the Teatro Real. Next season he will return to the Liceu with Un ballo in Maschera and to the Teatro Real with Dead Man Walking.
As for Germán Olvera, his recent performances and upcoming engagements include Lucrezia Borgia at the ABAO-Palacio Euskalduna, Bomarzo at the Teatro Real, Thaïs, in concert version, at the Liceu of Barcelona, Turandot with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Tel Aviv, Roméo et Juliette at the Liceu and Die Soldaten at the Teatro Real.
