The Theater Kiel is to premiere the double-bill programme Aleko/Francesca da Rimini, with the soprano Mercedes Arcuri in the cast


Mercedes Arcuri will sing in the double-bill programme Aleko/Francesca da Rimini to be staged at the Theater Kiel from April 28th through June 20th. In Aleko, an opera composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, with a Russian libretto by Vladimir Nemiróvich-Dánchenko, an adaptation of the poem The Gypsies by Aleksandr Pushkin, the Argentine soprano will sing the role of Semfira. In Francesca da Rimini, a symphonic poem composed by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, with a libretto by Modest Ilich Tchaikovsky, the composer's brother, based on Dante's Divine Comedy, Mercedes Arcuri will give life to Francesca Malatesta. The conductor of this double-bill will be Daniel Carlberg, leading the Orchester Kiel, the Chor Opernchor and the Extrachor des Theater Kiel. Stage direction will be in the hands of Valentina Carrasco, who is also from Argentina. Mercedes Arcuri is currently interpreting leading roles in various productions of the Theater Kiel, such as Gilda in Rigoletto and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera.
