Warsaw's Teatr Wielki mounts Eros i Psyche, with Wojtek Gierlach in the cast

From October 13th to 19th, the Teatr Wielki of Warsaw (Polish National Opera) will stage Eros i Psyche, the opera in five scenes and one epilogue by the Polish composer Ludomir Różycki, with libretto by Jerzy Żuławski. This work, tremendously popular on European opera stages in the period between the wars, looks at different aspects of humanity at various times in history and at the yearning for love. Since the start of World War II, it has been very rarely staged. Now, by the hand of conductor Grzegorz Nowak and stage director Barbara Wysocka, it takes its rightful place as the ambassador of Polish opera. Participating in this production are the most renowned Polish singers of today, such as the bass Wojtek Gierlach, among others.
We will also see Gierlach soon in Fidelio, at the Theater St Gallen, and in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, at the Royal Opera House of London.
